On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which passed into law a provision of Representative Maloney and Senator Merkley’s bill, The Breastfeeding Promotion Act.
Labor Code: AB 1025 was introduced by Dario Frommer (D-Glendale). The Lactation Law came into effect January 2002.
California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act: AB 2386 was introduced by Michael Allen (D-Santa Rosa). This law amends the FEHA by including breastfeeding and medical conditions related to breastfeeding in the defintion of “sex”, preventing employment discrimination and harrassment.
California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) enforces the Pregnancy Disability Regulations, which were revised as of October 2012 to include lactation as an “other related medical condition”.
