Please join BreastfeedLA for “FEEDING THE WHOLE STORY: Mental Health, Lactation & Client-Centered Care” with Cierra Murphy-Higgs, MS, EdS, IBCLC on June 25, 2026 from 10am PT-12pm PT. Perinatal mental health and infant feeding are often addressed in silos. Yet the lived experiences of new parents tell a more complex story. In this session, we will explore how psychological, physiological, and sociocultural factors converge during the critical postpartum period, influencing both lactation outcomes and mental well-being. Drawing from both evidence-based research and community-rooted practices, participants will learn integrative strategies that bridge clinical care with culturally responsive support.

Objectives – Here’s what you’ll learn:

Recognize how physiological, psychological, and cultural factors connect perinatal mental health and infant feeding challenges.
Identify evidence-based strategies that integrate mental health and lactation support in both clinical and community settings.
Practice client-centered communication skills to support informed decision-making, especially when navigating supplementing, conflicting advice, or emotional overwhelm.
