Thank you for signing up to be a Campaign Lead for our National Breastfeeding Month fundraiser! We are so grateful for the wonderful volunteers that get behind our mission to make a difference in our community.
We know that creating a fundraising page can seem overwhelming and we are here to help! Trust us when we say, you can make a HUGE impact with minimal effort. All it takes is a creative approach and a giving spirit!! The following posts are for you to share along with your personal fundraising link.
HERE ARE SOME EASY STEPS TO FOLLOW
- Recruit. Send your personal link to your family and friends and ask them to join you in the FUN(draising). The more people involved, the broader our reach, and the broader our reach, the more we can do to change the landscape of breastfeeding and chestfeeding in Los Angeles.
- Fundraise. It’s easier than you think! Send your link to family and friends and ask them to give! Post it on social media and ask your friends to forgo their coffee habit for a day and donate that money to help infants and families! Our Network for Good page even has emails drafted for you to send.
- Connect. Does your brother’s company support community causes and would like to sponsor the event? Is your neighbor a teacher looking for ways for her students to give back? Does your company match donations? Please pass on their information and we’ll help them to get involved, too!
- Make it Personal. Your network wants to support YOU and what matters to you. So, share your story and let them know why BreastfeedLA is near and dear to your heart. Don’t forget to add a photo.
Note: If posting on Instagram, we suggest putting your fundraising page URL in your bio, and referencing “link in bio” in your IG post.
*IMPORTANT!* Add your unique URL for your fundraising page where you see “(bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)” . If you don’t know your URL, email abutler@breastfeedla.org or text Amanda at (407) 436-4837.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week 2021! This year, I am moved to inform people about the importance of breast/chestfeeding, and the work of BreastfeedLA. Although support at the individual level is very important, breastfeeding must be considered a public health issue that requires investment at all levels. We must protect breastfeeding. Will you join me in my fundraising efforts and donate to BreastfeedLA today? (bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)

Meet Nathalie Rojas! Nathalie is a mother, wife, full spectrum traditional doula who uses the traditions of her ancestors in her work. She is also a certified lactation educator, fertility coach with 4 years experience in IVF and a medical assistant with 10 years experience in the medical field who was born and raised in Los Angeles. Nathalie is currently a Teachers Assistant with BreastfeedLA’s Lactation Education Students. She is completing her clinical hours at Eisner Women’s Health in Downtown LA. Birth is very sacred to her, and has been since becoming a mother at 16 years old. Nathalie says “having my son changed my life, gave me purpose and empowered me to follow my passion in birth work and my current journey towards becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and one day a midwife. I aspire to have my private practice once I become an IBCLC and dedicate time towards working with adolescent mothers, Black, Indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQIA communities to change the socio-economic disparities by opening a birth center that will focus on providing education, support and a safe and welcoming environment. My dream is to ultimately open a birth center in Guatemala where my roots are from, to be of service to our Indigenous Sacred Land. I am grateful for all that BreastfeedLA does and encourage you to donate today! (bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)

When we consider acts of solidarity with the Native American and Indigenous communities we should also consider the importance of aligning our work with Native American and Indigenous lactation advocates as they work to reverse the plague of invisibility perpetuated by racism and oppression, re-establish flourishing breast and chestfeeding communities, and decolonize the practice of lactation support by embracing traditional belief systems and pre-colonial foodways which includes the provision of Indigenous milk. We are thankful for leaders like Nikia Sankofa, Executive Director U.S. Breastfeeding Committee, who emphasized this important message during last year’s Native Breastfeeding Week. We continue to learn how to walk in solidarity and invite you to join our ongoing efforts. (bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)

It’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Isander (AANHPI) Breastfeeding Week! This year’s theme is “Reclaiming Our Tradition.” Although members of the AANHPI community come from vastly different cultures, one thing many AANHPI birthing people share is a history of breast/chestfeeding in our countries of origin only to have that history and lineage lost once subjected to the US system. This week we will be highlighting and sharing stories from our AANHPI community using #AANHPIBreastfeedingStory. Please support the work of BreastfeedLA and donate today. Meet Shamiesha Ebhotemen! She is a Registered Nurse and Certified Lactation Educator, with 10 years of nursing experience. She is currently completing clinical hours at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange County as part of the BreastfeedLA Clinical Lactation Program. Shameisha resides in Anaheim, CA with her husband and 3-year-old daughter.
During her pregnancy, she began searching for a Lactation Consultant of color in the area. She was only able to locate one person of color in the entire county of nearly 3.2 million people, which was very disheartening. This lit a fire underneath her and pushed her to get her certifications in both Lactation Education and Consultation. In September 2019, she founded NURSEMilk. Where the mission is to educate, teach, advocate, and empower women to breastfeed without fear, and erase the stigma that is still associated with breastfeeding.
Shamiesha says “BreastfeedLA means so much to me, because of how they are so intentional with their efforts to increase breast/chestfeeding rates within marginalized communities; also how they continue to hold space for Black, Indigienous, and people of color to become Lactation Consultants and change their own narrative.” Please help support this work and donate today. “As a Black woman and mother my goal is to provide my babies with as many advantages as possible throughout their lives so they can survive, grow, and thrive in a world that may not always be kind to them. Breastfeeding is the first gift and advantage I can give them and I take pride in that.
In honor of Black Breastfeeding Week… support Black women! Support Black babies! Support Black families! Help BreastfeedLA continue to fight the inequalities Black families face in their journey to breast/chestfeed their children.” (bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)

Meet Michelle! Michelle Sanders was born and raised in South Los Angeles, is a mother of 3, full spectrum doula, lactation educator, certified surgical technologist. Michelle is the Program Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Doula Program. Through BreastfeedLA’s clinical program, Michelle is currently completing her clinical hours at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance and will soon be helping facilitate the AAIMM Baby Café for participants in the AAIMM Doula Program.
Michelle became a mother at 18 and breastfeeding her first child was difficult due to both a lack of education around breastfeeding, and support from family. Breastfeeding babies’ number 2 and 3 were equally as challenging. “As Black women we have unfortunately inherited cultural/generational trauma associated with breastfeeding due to slavery, systemic and institutional racism, and oppression. My goal is to help change the narrative by becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, providing the education and support I did not have, and helping others who desire to pursue a career in lactation. Teen parents hold a special place in my heart, and I want to give them all the tools they need to be successful”.
Michelle is working to develop a program for young parents to have the support and stability that is sometimes lacking. She says, “My ultimate dream is for culturally congruent lactation support to be accessible for every breast/chestfeeding family so they can achieve their desired goals, normalize breast/chestfeeding, and pass down the practice for generations to come”.
As a recipient of a BreastfeedLA scholarship, Michelle says “I know the tremendous difference it makes in helping people like me reach our goals. BreastfeedLA has been doing amazing work and your donations will help keep this momentum going and the breast milk flowing.” (bit.ly/protectbreastfeeding)

MiLani Ramos, is a mother of three and shares, “Breastfeeding means so much to me but if I have to sum it up in a few words it would be closeness, health, bonding, and love. All of my children breastfed past 3 years and my daughter until she was almost 7 years old. I love that my body is able to provide physical, emotional and mental health for my children. I am so grateful that breastfeeding was encouraged in my family.”
