Join BreastfeedLA on February 7, 2025, from 10:00 Am to 12:00pm PST for “Milk Money: The Corporate Hijack of Black Breastfeeding” with the Radical Moms Union!
Formula companies have a long history of targeting vulnerable Black mothers with aggressive and unethical marketing tactics. Today, in the digital age, smaller, savvier formula brands are using new methods to push their products online—this time, by co-opting Black birthworkers like midwives, IBCLCs, and natural birth advocates as marketing tools on social media.
The grassroots organization Radical Moms Union is fighting back! They’re empowering mothers, lactation professionals, and birthworkers to stand against this predatory marketing and reclaim Black breastfeeding advocacy.
What You’ll Learn:
- Attendees will be able to better critique partnerships between birthwork organizations and formula companies
- Attendees will be able to identify new and innovative forms of predatory marketing online
- Attendees will be better equipped to intervene on a colleague who may be recruited/volunteer to promote for a formula company
