Please join us for a day-long seminar focused on serving LGBTQ+ families. The seminar will cover terminology, ethical considerations, inclusivity and the unique needs of queer, trans and gender non-conforming parents during lactation.
This seminar is designed to raise awareness, offer a safe space to ask questions, and give participants the necessary tools to provide care that meets the needs of all families.
Faculty
Dr. Wendy Ashley holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Masters in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has over twenty years of social work experience, is the author of multiple publications, speaks at conferences internationally, maintains a private practice and provides training for community agencies.
Gina Buccolo is an IBCLC, a writer, a teacher, a mother, and a passionate advocate for babies and families. She currently works as an inpatient and outpatient lactation consultant at UCLA Health, as a private practice lactation consultant, and for the UCSD lactation education program. She is particularly passionate about working with families with complex medical issues, such as autoimmune conditions and depression, as well as LGBTQ families.
Maricela de Rivera is a CLEC and Co-Founder/Director of Long Beach Breastfeeds. She is an active volunteer in the city of Long Beach and runs a support group for breastfeeding/chestfeeding families.

•Offer a welcoming and nurturing environment for their LGBTQIA+ clients and their families
•Provide culturally responsive lactation support for LGBTQIA+ clients and their families
Certificate Policy
After completion of the course evaluation, you will be provided with a link to your continuing education certificate. Make sure to print and save your certificate. BreastfeedLA will assist you with finding your certificate for up to 1 year from the event without cost. For assistance with any certificates older than 1 year from the time of the event, BreastfeedLA charges $15 for the first certificate, and $10 for each additional certificate requested each calendar year. A $5 processing fee will be added to requests needing fulfillment within 24 hours.
Cancellation Policy
Credit for future seminars is available under special circumstances until one week prior to event.
Payment Policy
Payment must be made during the time of online registration using a credit or debit card. If you need to make alternate payment arrangements such as a company check to be mailed to BreastfeedLA, you MUST select the ticket option of “General Registration by Check.” No Early Bird registration rates will apply to payments by check. This policy is in effect as of Aug 1, 2017.
Continuing Education Credits (offered at no additional charge)
Registered Nurses: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 6 contact hours of continuing education. BreastfeedLA’s provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.
Lactation Consultants: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36. 5 L-CERPs will be awarded.
