On Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM PST, BreastfeedLA presents Supporting Queer & Trans Parents in their Lactation Goals, a webinar featuring Licensed Midwife and author, Liam Kali, sponsored by LA Best Babies Network & the Los Angeles County Perinatal & Early Childhood Home Visitation Consortium. This presentation will examine how feeding our babies is but one aspect of parenting, how lactation and chest/breastfeeding are intensely embodied experiences that are deeply impacted by one’s gender identity, and that ultimately, each individual should be supported in their own personal lactation goals, with the highest priorities being a baby that is adequately nourished and parents and babies who are attaching securely to one another.
This workshop will explore the impact of queer and trans identity on lactation experiences and goals, including lactation induction in any body, chest feeding after masculinization surgery, and co-nursing.
Participants will be awarded 1.75 L-CERPS & 2.0 Contact Hours.
Objectives:
By the end of the presentation, participants will:
1. Understand the impact of queer and trans identity on lactation goals
2. Identify considerations for lactation induction across the gender spectrum
3. Explore feeding options after chest masculinization surgery
4. Learn about the interpersonal dynamics of co-nursing
5. Grasp the importance of supporting bonding and attachment.
