Please join us for a day-long seminar with Dr. Jack Newman. Grand Rounds (CMEs Offered, Do not need to be a physician to attend) will be featured for the first hour of the seminar.  We are excited to welcome Dr. Jack Newman, pediatrician and internationally-recognized expert in lactation medicine to Los Angeles Dr. Newman will begin the day with Grand Rounds (CMEs Offered, Everyone Welcomed!) specifically addressing what physicians, lactation professionals, and others are not being told about breastfeeding in their medical training in What They Didn’t Teach You About Breastfeeding In Your Training.
Next, Breastfeeding Myths (Even Lactation Consultants Believe) will enhance your ability to identify and address myths  related to jaundice, weight loss, newborn hypoglycemia, and much more!

After lunch, Dr. Newman will dive in to Breastfeeding the Premature, and Sick Baby including an in depth talk about feeding premature babies, cardiac problems,  and PKU.

Finally, Decreased Milk Supply And Possible “Not Enough Milk” After The First Few Months will clarifying why and how to deal with situations that arise after 2-3 month period involving milk supply and baby’s weight gain without undermining breastfeeding.

This seminar will feature Dr. Jack Newman! 

Dr. Jack Newman, MD, FRCPC, is a Toronto pediatrician who has practiced medicine since 1970. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto medical school. In 1984 he established the first hospital-based breastfeeding clinic in Canada at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. He has practiced as a physician in Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. He now holds breastfeeding clinics in several hospitals in the Toronto area. He is a consultant with UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and is a popular speaker at breastfeeding conferences across North America and beyond. He is the father of three children, all breastfed.

1)  Identify various medical topics related to breastfeeding that may not have been covered in thier previous trainings

2)  Discuss various breastfeeding myths that are currently thought to be true by medical professionals

3)  Dismantle the misconceptions and inaccuracies surrounding breastfeeding myths that are currently prevalent in the community

4)  Illustrate why many mothers with abundant milk supplies end up after 2 or 3 months with a fussy, unhappy baby

5)  Explain concepts relevant to breastfeeding premature and sick babies

RN: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 7 contact hours of continuing education. BreastfeedLA’s provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.

IBCLC: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36. 6.5 L-CERPs will be awarded.

RDs & OTs: Maintain a copy of the agenda and certificate for CPEs for Professional Development Portfolio.
