In honor of AANHPI Lactation Week, BreastfeedLA and the AANHPI Lactation Collaborative presents part one of a multi-part webinar series on language and lactation. This first session features a panel discussion of health professionals and community members. Together, we will center the lived experiences of clients who do not share the same language as their lactation providers, challenge deficit-based assumptions, and reframe linguistic diversity as a strength. We’ll also explore how systemic and institutional factors contribute to viewing language difference as a problem, and offer strength-based, culturally responsive strategies to better serve culturally and linguistically diverse families.
Objectives:
Identify systemic barriers that contribute to framing language diversity as a problem Learn strength-based strategies to support clients across language differences Discuss culturally responsive tools for inclusive lactation care in diverse communities
